We had never thought about the state of our environment before, and isolation became the cause of our anxiety. The climate change we have caused could be fatal if we do not act now. The new ISO guidance will help ensure that climate change is taken into account in every aspect when developing the new standard. With this in mind, ISO's Task Force on Coordination of Climate Change (CCC TF7) has developed new guideline for standards developers to ensure that climate change is addressed with each new standard. ISO Guide 84, Guiding principles for dealing with climate change in standards, provides relevant principles and useful information to help standards writers consider the effects of climate change, risks and opportunities in their own standardization work.
Nick Blyth, Convenor of CCC TF7 who developed this guide, notes that Guide 84 contributes to raising awareness and understanding not only of those working on sustainability standards, but of the standardization community as a whole. This relates to standards widely used in many industries, in accordance with these principles ultimately helps organizations to increase resilience to future atmospheric impacts, as well as address low-carbon risks and transition opportunities. The use of the guidance will also lead to increased contributions to the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. ISO Guide 84 was developed by CCC TF7, which is part of the ISO technical board, and is a companion to ISO Guide 82, a guide to addressing sustainability in standards.
